IMAGINE THE DIFFERENCE

Many fail to see the interconnectedness of our world, seeing only the monetary value of the land and what inhabits it. This results in humans who minimize the importance of the natural world. I would like to change that by providing opportunities for students to return to the wild, for them to see the vast beauty that surrounds them and recognize that they are the guardians of it.

By altering the status quo and providing students with many opportunities to reach beyond the textbook and experience the magic that exists in watching a deer cross your path or discovering a patch of wildflowers, they will grow in the understanding that the value of that land and those that inhabit it are far more than monetary. Many positive interactions in nature will help in building memories that will serve these students throughout their lives from identifying plant and animal life to discerning between animal tracks and scat, to mindfulness practices and survival practices.

Many years ago, Chief Seattle delivered a speech in which he said, "The earth does not belong to us. We belong to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us. We did not weave the web of life, we are merely a strand in it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves."

To inspire future decision-makers, I truly believe that understanding the value of other life is key. I am not certain what challenges they will face as they age, but I am positive that it will be different from the challenges we face now. Allowing our students to grow with an understanding of the impacts our lives (as humans) have will be critical to them understanding the impacts of their own decisions.

The League of Explorers will work to identify solutions, build confidence, foster creative thought and a deepened understanding of our Earth.

Students and their families are welcome to join us on adventures that showcase the undeniable beauty surrounding us.
