STEM Solution Seekers

Last year, with the help of our community, we were able to raise enough money to purchase our hamster, Gus. We love him so much!

This year we have much bigger (literally) plans! We'd like to plant trees!

But, it's not quite as simple as buying and planting. Ms. Cesyli was able to talk to the City of Concord and had it approved for us to plant local trees in nearby parks! They even connected us with our new friends, Friends of Lime Ridge, who will help us in finding great locations for our plants and will help to ensure they stay healthy.

From there, we started brainstorming how we could raise money to purchase trees for planting. It was tricky because we needed to make sure that it was cost effective (there was a lot of math involved in figuring that out!). We thought about baking. We thought about selling candy, but then we decided on a totally different plan:

We've been working on creating candles from beeswax, tie-dying t-shirts and creating original artwork!

All of our items (like the ones in this picture) can be found at the outdoor 2nd Saturday Artisnal Markets! Pretty awesome! Come check it out and help us save our Earth!

Why do we want to plant trees?

We lose about 40 football fields worth of forest every minute or 2.7 million trees per day.

A mature tree produces as much oxygen in a season as 10 people will inhale in a year.

Trees are home to many birds, mammals and insects.

Planting trees helps to protect our future and that of many other species.
